Welcome to our second Back To The Stacks post.
This week we have some fun (and funny) chapter books to share all chosen by our 7 year old who is in first grade…
What kind of books are your kids reading this week? What’s in your stack? We always want to know what everyone else is reading! LOL
This week’s stack includes…
King & Kayla and The Case of The Lost Library Book
our 7 year old thinks this one is pretty funny especially the part where King doesn’t want to trade his toy!
Kayla needs to return her library books, but she can’t find one of them. King knows that if they don’t return all the books, they can’t check out more–and that means no new stories.Analytical Kayla retraces her steps, with the assistance of their friend Jillian. Sensitive King smells a library book. Could it be lost in Dad’s chair? Nope, that’s a different book. In fact, it’s a book that belongs to Jillian’s little brother Adam. Can King and Kayla put the pieces together and find the lost library book? With simple, straightforward language and great verbal and visual humor, the King & Kayla series is perfect for newly independent readers. King and Kayla model excellent problem-solving skills, including working as a team, gathering facts, making lists, and evaluating evidence.

Olive Oh is one of our favorites. This one’s a marvelous read because Olive gets her inspiration for her school art show from the stories her family tells her.
When Olive Oh’s third-grade teacher announces that the whole school will be having an art show, Olive is thrilled. Being creative is what she does best. Plus, she has just found her lucky red beret. Olive is sure she’ll have all kinds of great ideas. But as the week goes on and Olive sees all the amazing projects her classmates create, she starts having doubts. What if her friends are better artists than she is? Or worse, what if she’s all out of creative ideas?
Olive Oh is going to be a famous artist when she grows up. Right now, she’s in third grade, using her creative thinking to find solutions to all kinds of problems. Her ideas often lead to unexpected adventures for her family and friends. But as any good artist knows, messiness is often part of the process.

See what happens when the girls are told they can’t join in on kickball. The boys are in for a good surprise!
It’s career week in Miss Taylor’s class! When Lauren says that she wants to be a football announcer, some of her classmates laugh and ask how she could work in a sport she can’t even play. Lauren is bummed out, especially since she knows a ton about football. She feels even worse when she wants to play kickball at recess and the boys won’t let her join their teams.
Instead of backing down, Lauren, Emelyn, Ruby, and Myka challenge them to a game—boys against girls. The prize: control of the kickball field during recess. But when Lauren’s competitiveness comes out at practice, the BFFs start to butt heads, and Lauren starts to wonder what she really wants out of this. Can the girls get ready for the big game?
