Visiting NYC and scouting out playgrounds for the kids?
If you’re passing by lower Manhattan, you won’t wanna miss the Battery Playscape.
Located in the Battery waterfront park, the playscape is a pretty cool new playground. When inside, it actually doesn’t feel like you’re in the city (at least not until you look at the buildings outside the Battery).
Opened in December 2021, the playscape is separated into different areas or ecology zones for kids to explore:
- the Bluff has five granite slides,
- the Riverbed and Marsh filled with gardens, greenery, elevated tree houses, a water play area;
- the Dune and Meadow and the ShowBox feature a puppet theater.
Seating is available for adults to sit while kids play. A recently added feature near the climbing wall is another seating area with umbrellas right next to a book bin which makes for a perfect reading spot!
Definitely a good playground to stop at, next to the Staten Island ferry. During summer, aim for morning hours as shade cover is limited and camp groups arrive by noon.
After playing here, the kids will want to take a ride on the Seaglass Carousel right next door or cool down in sprinklers at nearby Bosque Fountain.
